The so very important need for confrontational activism
I miss the confrontational approach to activism. During the protests against the new Equinor project Wisting yesterday, for instance, we didn't even walk on red light, which is preposterous. And this is only one example of many.
It is very bad that veterans of protests teach youth such behavior.
Some people calling themselves activists or similar fear the condemnation of society, which is glaringly counterproductive, of course.
Just Stop Oil in the UK has at least realized that, realized the need for challenging a thoroughly unjust and oppressive society head on. Most people working in some kind of official or semiofficial capacity against climate change and extinction and social injustice, or anything really want us to be nice little boys and girls begging the polluters and oppressors for favors. That will never work, of course, will never even gain us an inch of progress in our beyond crucial venture.
Such people won’t realize the obvious; that the establishment in any given society will always use their massive might and propaganda against us. They will always attempt to turn the tables and use our actions, opinions or anything against us, no matter how nice we are.
Everyone should realize we do live in a thoroughly unjust society with only the pretense of justice and benevolence and humane treatment. That realization is the crucial first step, really. There are others, but so many things fall into place when that does.
Add to that that most establishment people are suffering from a deep, fundamental spiritual illness, and their horrible actions start making sense. There is no talking sense to such people.
The entire line of thought of being civil to such people is yet another establishment ploy, one more attempt at controlling, managing us.
In case you’re wondering, today’s inhuman society is totally irredeemable. There is no way, no improvement that will ever make it a good place to live and thrive.
People seeking environmental justice, social justice or any true change should focus their efforts at changing human society in drastic, irrevocable ways. That will work. It is the only thing that will.
